The guards initially nicknamed “surgeon sentries,” reflecting the two simple ideas behind their design. The guards of The City were one of only a few chances to directly visually communicate any aspect of the civilization within the the walls. In a way, they became a human manifestation of the city and its dwindling civilization. Closed in, wrapped, sterile, purist, desperate to retain their own identity in the face of self inflicted decline.
